When in doubt...shoot!

Competitive shooting exercises can help make your practice sessions more effective, not to mention interesting and fun

Competitive finishing exercises can be a great break from the ordinary practice routine, especially at the of the season. Here is an assortment of prcatical shooting exercises that are sure to liven up your standard repertoire.

About the exercises

  • When planning your practice sessions, the main objective should be to avoid down time as much as possible. The more time a player spends waiting for a turn, the less he/she learns!
  • The best tool for efficient practice session is a second (portable) goal. The result? Gorups at both goals become smaller and each player gets more shots on goal.
  • Simple variations in the placement of these two goals ca create a wide variety of different exercises. Some arrangements lend themselves to a rotaion pattern, so that players do not waste time running back to starting positions.
  • A final note on including these exercises in your own training program: Think of them as supplements to your regular practice games - the best way to improve finishing technique is by playing the game in and around the penalty box. For shooting sessions, try alternating between exercises and games.
